Strategy of the Week - 3.2.26
Olivia Rodrigo & the Color-Coded Rollout, BLACKPINK, Sublime, & more

“Finishing records…”
Was the caption to a recent post by producer Dan Nigro on Instagram, in which he sits next to Olivia Rodrigo, tension thick in the air. The image went viral, with plenty of speculation that, finally, she would be dropping her third album.

For an album with no official title (simply being referred to as OR3 for now) and no tracklist, the hype surrounding it is almost unheard of. And the main thing behind it is the Color-Coded Rollout. Over the last year or so, Olivia Rodrigo has had fans speculating about a color change from purple (her signature color for past releases) to red. It represents a “soft launch” in marketing, allowing her to slowly build the hype for fans without any big announcements. If the records are truly finished, however, expect the marketing to ramp up, and be on the lookout for plenty of bold and genius moves from Rodrigo and her team.
